QHA Members, Partners, staff, friends and family are encouraged to provide feedback via the survey below. There are a number of issues concerning our industry including a government recommendation restricting drinking in Designated Outdoor Smoking Areas (DOSAs).

REDUCING SMOKING CONSULTATION

The Queensland Government is interested in further reducing the negative health effects of smoking tobacco or e-cigarettes. To achieve this options are proposed to:

  • increase smoke-free public places
  • strengthen laws that control how smoking products can be supplied
  • strengthen laws that restrict advertising and promotion of smoking products.

This survey provides an opportunity for all community members, industry and organisations to provide feedback on the options provided in the Consultation Paper - Reducing the negative effects of smoking in Queensland.

The survey is arranged by the seven topics considered in Section 2 of the consultation paper. You can provide responses to all topics or select the topics you wish to provide a response for.

Please note: There is a 45 minute time limit for completing the survey from the time you start filling it out. To save your response, click the Finish later button (within the 45 minute time limit) —you will be given an address and a password, which you can use later to complete your survey.

SURVEY QUESTIONS – 7 TOPICS

  1. Monitoring compliance of retail smoking product supply
  2. Advertising and promotion of smoking products at retail premises
  3. Supply of smoking products at liquor licensed venues
  4. Sale of smoking products by minors
  5. Smoking at liquor licensed venues
  6. Smoke-free outdoor eating or drinking places
  7. Smoking at outdoor markets

GOVERNMENT’S RECOMMENDED OPTIONS FOR EACH TOPIC

Seven preferred options are put forward for public comment. These are:

  1. Introducing a licensing scheme for wholesale and retail suppliers of smoking products.
  2. Modernising advertising and display and promotion provisions for clarity and consistency.
  3. Limiting the sale of smoking products at liquor licenced venues to a serviced bar or bottle-shop.
  4. Prohibiting the sale and handling of smoking products by minors in their employment.
  5. Introducing new designated outdoor smoking area (DOSA) requirements:
    • Restricting DOSAs to adults.
    • Prohibiting drinking in DOSAs.
    • Requiring a buffer between DOSAs and enclosed venue areas.
  6. Introducing restrictions on smoking-only areas at outdoor eating or drinking places and requiring buffers around the perimeter of outdoor eating or drinking places.
  7. Prohibiting smoking at outdoor markets, except for smoking only areas.
  8. Requiring a buffer between DOSAs and enclosed venue areas.
  9. Introducing restrictions on smoking-only areas at outdoor eating or drinking places and requiring buffers around the perimeter of outdoor eating or drinking places.
  10. Prohibiting smoking at outdoor markets, except for smoking only areas.
