MEMBERS OF THE BOARD
Tom is a second generation President of the QHA, following his father, who held the role as well. As a long term advocate of the industry, Tom has also served as National AHA President in the past. The McGuire Hotels group is proudly family owned and consists of 10 hotels across the SE of Qld covering all offerings from accommodation, gaming, dining, retail and of course – quality pubs.
Senior Vice President
Richard is the owner of the iconic Story Bridge Hotel. Noted as one of the “must see” hotels in Brisbane, the Deery’s have built an impressive venue that has evolved with the changing nature of their surrounding neighbourhood in Kangaroo Point on the river, across from the Brisbane CBD.
With an extensive history across the industry, Scott represents the Sunshine Coast area where he currently has three venues. As newly constructed hotels in growth areas, Scott lives the experiences of many of our members and the challenges this presents.
As the General Manager of the Brisbane Marriott, John is the Vice President elected from our Accommodation Division. John represents these members directly to the Board on matters that affect Accommodation members and the broader Tourism industry.
The Fitzgibbons family are well known in the Queensland Hotels industry, and Brad represents another generation of support at the QHA. As a prominent hotelier at Fitzy’s Toowoomba, Brad brings the experiences of a regional venue and the Darling Downs to our Board.
As a long time Cairns hotelier, at the Crown Hotel, Peter represents as one of the Trustees of the Board. Trustees were needed for the Association to hold real estate in the past, and Peter acts as one of our prominent northern representatives.
TrusteeAs the proprietor of the Ascot Hotel in Rockhampton, Will represents both “Beef City” and the central parts of Queensland with enthusiasm. Will has extensive experience of central and northern Queensland having owned and operated several hotels throughout the regions. He is the other Trustee of the QHA.
Honorary Secretary / Treasurer
Tony serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of the QHA and owns the Currumbin Creek Hotel. Operating his hotel in the southern Gold Coast, Tony understands intimately the pressures on small operators in tourism hotspots. Tony is also the representative of the QHA to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund which directs the levies from gaming back to worthwhile community initiatives.
Bernie joined QHA in 2016 having enjoyed a career in advocacy, media and a little bit of government, but started as many of us, as a barman in a pub. He is passionate about defending our industry and the people within it, as the entrepreneurial, job-creating, music-loving and entertaining hubs of our communities.
