Energy is a significant operating cost for many pubs, hotels and accommodation venues, particularly those with high electricity usage across gaming, refrigeration, kitchens, air conditioning and accommodation facilities. With new opportunities emerging for larger commercial solar installations, now is a good time for QHA members to review their energy strategy, assess potential solar opportunities and ensure they are getting competitive energy pricing.
Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES)
The Federal Government has announced plans to expand the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) to support eligible solar systems between 100 kW and 1 MW. This could create a valuable opportunity for eligible QHA members with significant daytime energy usage and suitable roof space.
Previously, systems above 100 kW were outside the SRES, so the proposed expansion could make larger commercial solar projects more financially attractive by providing an upfront incentive.
A well-designed solar system can help reduce the amount of electricity purchased from the grid during daytime trading and potentially lower long-term energy costs.
However, the value of solar ultimately comes down to whether it is commercially viable for your venue and can deliver a worthwhile return.
Is Your Energy Strategy Working for You?
Before investing in solar or other energy solutions, an energy assessment can help identify where your biggest costs are coming from and whether your current electricity pricing remains competitive.
We can assess your current energy position and identify whether opportunities such as commercial solar, battery storage or a change in your energy contract could provide value for your venue.
