OLGR’s Noise Regulation for Licensed Premises Survey

OLGR’s Noise Regulation for Licensed Premises Survey

OLGR is reviewing its regulatory framework for noise management and is seeking your input. The survey is open now until 11:45pm Sunday 31 August 2025.

What’s the review about?

Under the Liquor Act 1992, the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) regulates noise from licensed premises—this includes entertainment and patron noise. OLGR is reviewing its regulatory guidelines and framework for noise management — and is seeking your input.

Please note entertainment noise from venues within special entertainment precincts is regulated by local councils.

What are the objectives of the review?

OLGR will be updating its noise complaint management model to:

  • Introduce a minimum complaint threshold prior to formal OLGR compliance action.
  • Require complainants to directly engage with the venue in the first instance to try and resolve the complaint.
  • Strengthen order of occupancy considerations.
