EASTER PERIOD TRADING GUIDE
Good Friday Eve (Thursday 17 April)
On the Thursday before Good Friday, all liquor and gaming service must cease at 12 midnight.
Patrons have until 12.30am to finish their drinks and be off the premises. This applies even if you have approved extended trading hours that usually allow for later trading.
All gaming machines at hotels and clubs must also stop at midnight on Good Friday Eve.
Good Friday (18 April)
On Good Friday, no gaming is permitted and no take-away liquor may be sold.
Liquor may be supplied to patrons eating a meal in an area of the premises ordinarily set aside for dining. Liquor can be sold to patrons for one hour before dining, while eating their meal and for one hour after finishing their meal.
Note: A meal is defined as food eaten by a person at a fixed structure used as a table, with cutlery provided for the purpose of eating the food, and is of a sufficient substance to be ordinarily accepted as a meal.
Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday
There are no special restrictions on the provision of liquor and gaming, and licensed premises can trade in accordance with their permitted trading hours and conditions.
ANZAC DAY TRADING GUIDE
ANZAC Day Eve (24 April)
On Thursday 24 April, the sale and supply of alcohol must cease at midnight (with a grace period of 30 minutes for consumption permitted until 12:30am). Gaming machine operations must also cease at 12.30am.
ANZAC Day (25 April)
On Friday 25 April, from 10am to 1pm, liquor may only be sold or supplied in conjunction with a meal in a part of the premises that is ordinarily set aside for dining. Note definitions of a meal ‘as above’.
Liquor can be sold to patrons for one hour before dining, while eating their meal and for one hour after finishing their meal.
TAB wagering operations can commence from 12 midday on ANZAC Day.
The sale of take away liquor, EGM gaming and KENO is not permitted prior to 1pm on ANZAC Day.
From 1pm on ANZAC Day, normal liquor and gaming trading conditions apply.
ANZAC Day TWO-UP
Conducting two-up on ANZAC Day requires written approval.
Hotel premises can conduct two-up on their premises as part of an ANZAC Day commemoration, if it is approved in writing by an RSL sub-branch and various conditions are met:
- people aged under 18 must not play two-up
- no commission can be charged on money wagered
- all money wagered in the game must be returned to players as winnings
- if an entry fee is charged for those who participate in the game, the money raised is to be donated to the RSL or RSL sub-branch to support ex-service men and women and their families (this could be through an association such as Legacy)
- any money raised from entry fees must not be used for administrative purposes.
In 2012 an amendment was made to the Charitable and Non-Profit Gaming Act 1999 (Qld). This amendment was passed to retain the historical significance of the two-up game, which is usually held after a memorial service every Anzac Day to remember the sacrifice made by Australia’s service men and women.
