The Queensland Government released their Work in Paradise program on the 20th of May, 2021. The program is designed to incentivise any workers that are interested in moving to Queensland to fill hospitality and tourism jobs.  Any worker that takes a job in a region north of Mackay or west of Toowoomba (we will confirm if Toowoomba is included) will be eligible for a $1500 payment and potentially a $250 travel bonus.

Members can advertise their jobs anywhere – on Seek, on the Qld Government website for the program www.workinparadise.initiatives.qld.gov.au/ or other forums. We suggest you use the hashtag #workinparadise in any Seek ads to make sure the advertisement is picked up in searches.

Eligible jobs are to be minimum 20 hours a week and the payments are made from the Queensland Government through QRIDA to the worker at 2 weeks, 12 weeks and 6 months. The $250 travel bonus is available for anyone taking up a job more than 100km away. The Work in Paradise program already has many people registered on it (both employers and employees) and is eligible for work starting from 1 July, 2021. The range of roles is very wide including both front and back of house right across the hospitality, hotel and tourism sector. Whilst the issue of staffing is experienced right across Queensland, this is a trial that may be extended to the other areas in the state.
