Loads of Queensland tourism and hospitality businesses are looking for staff right now. From chic cafes in Coolangatta to rainforest retreats in Cape York, we’re after workers to give it a go.

The Queensland Government is working closely with the tourism industry to rebuild the sector, including the 234,000 jobs it supports, to ensure a rapid and enduring recovery from the impacts of COVID-19.

With the easing of interstate border restrictions and warmer weather we are anticipating a resurgence and increased demand for Queensland tourism offerings and a strong tourism workforce is needed to support this.

Our new digital campaign ‘Give it a Go in Queensland’ aims to promote the thousands of unfilled tourism and hospitality jobs currently available in the hope of uniting potential employees with their next employer.

Where possible, we want Queenslanders to take up these jobs. As there are so many positions up for grabs, we’re also widening the search to other states.

Job opportunities range from cleaners to business managers, hospitality roles, tour guides, pilots, deckhands, finance specialists, travel agents and event managers located across enviable locations such as the Whitsundays, Outback Queensland, and the Fraser Coast.

On our Give it a Go website you will find links to job opportunities, travel incentives and training options to help you find and prepare for your dream tourism job.

Program partners Queensland Rail and national coach operator Greyhound Australia have come onboard to ensure cheap and easy travel for new tourism workers around the state.

Give it a Go job seekers are entitled to a $300 discount to get to their employment destination with Greyhound Queensland. The Working in Queensland WhimIt pass is valid for 90 days and available for purchase until 31 January 2021 at $399.

In addition, Queensland Rail’s Regional Workforce fare offers 60 per cent off one-way fares for travel along the coast from Brisbane up to Cairns. This offer is available for purchase until 31 January 2021.

Tourism operators, island resorts and hotels are also offering staff enviable benefits including onsite accommodation, higher duties for upskilling and industry discounts – not to mention access and encouragement to explore some of Queensland’s most glorious destinations in their free time.

And even better, jobseekers don’t need any experience for many of these opportunities, they just need to be looking for an experience.

The tourism industry is vitally important to Queensland. Please help us to promote this campaign by sharing information with your networks, family and friends.
