A weekly Wednesday night ritual for a young Forest Lake woman and her grandad quickly became the most exciting night of their life after the pair snagged more than $1 million at the Forest Lake Hotel.

The elated family members won a Keno Classic 10 Spot on Wednesday 6 October 2021, delivering them a $1,095,530.40 prize.

Forest Lake Hotel spokesperson Joe Walker said the team was so excited to see one of their patrons win.

“We’ve been celebrating at the venue and telling everyone we’ve sold a major Keno prize,” he said.

“Lots of people have been so excited to hear that one of our patrons has won. Everyone’s hoping it is them next time!

“Congratulations to our winner! We wish them all the very best with their prize.”

Confirming their win with an official from Keno this morning, the young woman explained how a regular Wednesday night quickly turned into the most unforgettable one yet.

“We were just having dinner on a Wednesday night like we do every week with the family,” she said.

“Me and grandad always put on a Keno entry at dinner; it’s our little thing.

“We were all just sitting there having a chat, waiting for our food and the manager came over to us and asked if we had put a 10 Spot ticket on.

“We had, so we got up and scanned the ticket, and there it was!

“We were in a complete state of shock.

“Grandad is bloody over the moon!”

With more than one million dollars coming their way, she explained they’d be sharing their prize.

“Grandad wants a new car and I want to put my half of the prize towards buying a house,” she said.

“It will really set me up for the rest of my life. It’s incredible.”
