On 17 August 2021, the Queensland Government announced that this year (and only this year) Friday 29 October 2021, would be a public holiday in the following council areas:

  • Brisbane City Council;
  • Moreton Bay Council; and
  • Scenic Rim Regional Council

This means public holiday entitlements will apply in these council areas on Friday 29 October 2021. The QHA’s Guide on Employee Public Holiday Entitlements is available HERE

The public holiday on 29 October 2021 replaces the Royal Queensland Show public holiday (Ekka) that did not occur this year on 9 August 2021 (Scenic Rim and Moreton Bay) and 11 August 2021 (Brisbane) because of the cancellation of the Ekka.

If you are unsure whether you fall within the Brisbane, Scenic Rim or Moreton Bay council areas, you can check HERE.

The full list of show holiday dates according to council area can be found HERE.
